Communicator passionate about educating the public
News media has been a part of my life since I can remember. When I was four my aunt’s house got torn down in a tornado – I remember watching the radar with my parents while we were taking shelter. In 2007, a massive ice storm left devastation. I remember sitting right in front of the TV that we hooked up with a generator. I thought it was so interesting that the news anchors had so much information to help people.
I was six years old and confused as to why. So at that moment, I decided to set my sights on finding that answer. “Why did this happen?” As I got older, I thought that I wanted to be a meteorologist and inform people about the “why.”
I did all the things an aspiring meteorologist does. I visited the TV station, went to the National Weather Service and went to the severe weather expositions. And when I made it to middle and high school I took meteorology classes and competed in meteorology contests.
But, as time went on I realized I like to inform people about all things not just weather. After years of broadcast classes in high school, I decided I wanted to be a journalist. My horizons widened and I began to learn the ethics of news, how to shoot and edit and how to make news packages.
After high school, I continued my education at Missouri State University. I graduated Summa Cum Ladue with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism with a minor in Political Science. While at MSU I served as the News Editor for The Standard, a Gray Television Future Focus Intern and a Special Event Assistant for Ozarks Public Television. as a Special Events Assistant. I attended many different conferences and even had a chance to meet John Quiñones. He restored my faith in journalism and faith in the career path I want.
Upon graduation, I continued my producing role at KY3. Within 3 months of being full-time, I was promoted to the 9 p.m. hour-long newscast. In this role, I create anchor moments, showcase breaking news, script the newscast, edit videos for on-air, pitch stories and help assign reporters every single day.
I am eager to take my skills to a larger market. I want to expand my knowledge and continue to inform the public.
